Fundamental studies and applications of tailored multifunctional inorganic and hybrid nanosystems

The continuing demands for miniaturization of electronic and photonic devices along with the enhancement of their functionalities require alternative technological approaches and a rational design of new nanomaterials. The proposed research program is concerned with understanding multi-functionality in reduced dimensions and the potential applications of new multifunctional nanostructures in addressing technological and societal challenges with long-term benefits to Canada. Specifically, my research group is interested in synthesis, fundamental physical and chemical properties, and potential technological applications of nanostructured materaials that combine tunable optical, electrical and magnetic properties. We investigate two complementary approaches to achieving multi-functionality at the nanoscale: 1) intrinsic and 2) extrinsic approach.
