英文摘要
Metalumen Manufacturing Inc. is designing, engineering, manufacturing, and supplying various lighting**products for commercial, health care, educational, and transportation sectors. The development of new lighting**devices with custom specified spectral characteristics, including spectral power distribution, colour**temperature, and colour rendering index, could enable the company to gain significant competitive advantage**in the global market. Improvement in the tunability of the lighting parameters will not only allow for growing**the market segments Metalumen is currently in, but also entering other markets and creating new opportunities.**However, the construction of tunable white-light-emitting phosphors remains challenging and costly because of**the difficulties in obtaining multi-colour emission in the desired proportion. The purpose of this proposal is to**launch a joint project between Metalumen and my group at the University of Waterloo to develop new tunable,**efficient, and environmentally benign white-light-emitting phosphors based on metal oxide and carbon**nanoparticles. The nanoparticles with suitable emission properties will subsequently be functionalized with**selected organic or inorganic secondary fluorophores to generate white light emission with desired spectral**characteristics. In the second stage of the project we will explore the ways to incorporate these new composite**single white-light-emitting phosphors into commercial light emitting diodes that are a part of the Metalumen's**products. This project will enable the initiation of a new line of products and attraction of new customers to**Metalumen, which will ultimately result in the creation of new jobs on the Canadian market. Furthermore, the**development of new energy-efficient lighting sources free of rare-earth and toxic elements promotes the overall**sustainability in the Canadian society.
