The first step in prevention and efficient treatment of diseases is timely and accurate diagnoses. Handheld diagnostic devices have the potential to revolutionize the healthcare industry by enabling early disease detection and patient-specific treatments at the point-of-need. The focus of the proposed system is to develop an affordable, portable, sensitive, accurate, automated and rapid platform for infectious disease diagnostics. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, an electrical microchip will be developed for parallel detection of genes contained within bacterial and viral cells. This microchip will integrate three previously separate platforms in a single microchip:
