Weakly Interacting Particles and Physics Beyond the Standard Model

My research program is focused on two unresolved problems in elementary particle physics. The first problem is concerned with one of the four fundamental forces of nature, the Electroweak force, and its behavior at high energies. The second problem is whether the dark matter seen in astronomical and astrophysical observations is a new fundamental particle, a new form of matter. Curiously, both problems have their origins in the 1930's with Enrico Fermi's theory of beta decay and Fritz Zwicky's observation of the Coma cluster. More importantly, both problems may usher us into phenomena beyond the extremely successful Standard Model.
