Fundamental Interactions and Physics Beyond the Standard Model

Subatomic particle physics is the science that describes the most fundamental building blocks of the world around us - the basic forces and particles that shape our Universe. After decades of bold experiments and theoretical advances, we have the "Standard Model", which is the most precise scientific theory we have in science. However, it leaves unanswered some very deep questions about our Universe: what is the dark matter inferred from astrophysical observations? Why do particles have the masses they do? What is the origin of matter-antimatter asymmetry? Why is gravity so much weaker than the other forces? At its core my proposal is about developing new ways of exploring the subatomic world and formulating novel ideas for going beyond the Standard Model. Some of the key questions my proposal is concerned with are: Are there new particles beyond those of the Standard Model? Is dark matter a new fundamental particle? Are there new forces associated with neutrinos? As part of this effort my research seeks to construct new tools, develop new methods, and propose new experiments to shed light on these fundamental questions.
