As assembly lines, production, and laboratory work is relentlessly automated in a continuous drive for lower cost and higher efficiency, hundreds of companies around the world are installing robotic and complex equipment to automate processes. Many of these processes involve moving an object, such as a tool, component, or a fluid, from one location to another. Our opportunity is to create the world's best high resolution, 6D motion stage for the electronics and medical devices, manufacturing, and life sciences markets. Based on our patented planar motor technology (a video for this technology can be accessed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r4Tv7GbB8o), we propose to develop a fully functional planar motion system with two concurrently working stages for industrial automation applications. Capable of high speed, high acceleration, 6 degree-of-freedom motion control, zero friction, vacuum compatibility, and at low cost, this technology can provide significant productivity, quality, and flexibility benefits to a wide range of markets for manufacturing high value-added products, such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and fiber optics.
