An e-payment system is an important component of an e-commerce system for consumers to pay merchants for goods bought. Almost all existing third party e-payment systems that are currently deployed require participating parties to provide credit cards or bank account information to finalize transactions. Such payment systems are often unacceptable, even impossible, to consumers in those parts of the world (and among many Canadian minority communities) where consumers would not be willing to divulge their financial information to payment providers, or simply do not possess financial accounts.
