Radio frequency identification (RFID) is one of the most promising and anticipated technologies in recent years. The advantages of RFID are to track the items in warehouse and transportation process and improve the accuracy of inventory. Warehouse material handling and inventory cost accounts for significant part of the total operation costs in many industries. OCR Canada Ltd. is an industry leader in the delivery of effective solutions for mobile computing and RFID. This research mainly investigates how to take the advantages of RFID technology in warehouse and inventory control and designs the correspondent system. The project develops mathematical models to find RFID based optimal warehouse layout policy so that the operation cost can be reduced significantly. The result of this research will provide a tool to choose warehouse layout policy and design RFID based warehousing and inventory system. The implementation of proposed warehouse system can significantly improve warehousing and logistics efficiency and enhance Canadian companies' competitiveness.
