With the exponential growth in internet applications, more and more data centers (including servers, data storage, cloud storage, etc) have been built to process the ever-increasing network traffic. These data centers consume considerable amounts of electrical energy, about 1.5% of the total electricity generated in US. It is estimated by the US Environmental Protection Agency that the peak load of data centers in the US alone was 12 Giga Watt in 2011.
