Critical airport infrastructure requires highly reliable operating performance. The most important of these, the Baggage Handling System (BHS), is made of assemblages of moving parts like gears, bearings, motors, and belt drives. Failure in any one of the constituent parts in a BHS can cause substantial monetary losses to the owner and operator. Ensuring smooth operation of BHS requires maintenance, either continuously or at regular intervals, so that any change in the condition like deterioration or damage of bearings, gears, and rotors can be detected in a timely manner.
