Recently, the integration of optical and electronic (IOC) devices to achieve lower costs and higher functionality has become attractive for a wide variety of electronic applications. The key to innovation at the design level for these circuits is the requirement for highly skilled personnel to take advantage of sophisticated CAD platforms which enable them to undertake quick iterations of the design and simulation loop. However a significant impediment to the efficient development of IOCs has been the lack of a self-consistent circuit level simulator capable of handling a wide range of electrical and optical components.
