To validate the efficacy of software for cognitive enhancement (i.e., so-called brain games), it is essential to show that practice with such software leads to improvement in activities of daily living and in school. This proposal examines how training with computer software that is designed to improve thinking and learning in young children affects performance on standardized tests and academic achievement. In particular, it will identify the particular characteristics of brain games that are most likely to lead to cognitive enhancement that generalizes to important academic and everyday tasks.
