The purchase of the BD FACSVerse instrument, a flow cytometer designed to support cell analysis for biomedical research applications, is critical for the ongoing research of 9 labs at UBC. Installed in Dr. Hafeli's radiopharmaceutical lab in the new Pharmaceutical Sciences building, the instrument will be used to carry out flow cytometry of radioactive cells and particles, something that is currently not allowed at any other facility/ lab on campus. The Hafeli lab has extensive experience with all types of radioisotopes and has the permits to house the instrument. This highly sensitive instrument will provide a unique capability which is crucial not only in the development of the novel radiopharmaceuticals at UBC, the Cancer Agency, the Centre of Drug Research and Development (CDRD) and TRIUMF, but also in many biology, life sciences and engineering experiments.
