Our laboratory at the University of Toronto is a world leader in the study and application of a novel class of organic electronic compounds known as boron subphthalocyanines (BsubPcs). Recently, we have developed two variants with unique electro- and photo-physical properties compared with other BsubPcs and organic electronic materials in general; F5BsubPc and poly-BsubPc. F5BsubPc is a small molecule with a unique pure and efficient orange electroluminescence. We have also developed poly-BsubPcs which have a novel 'orange + red' emission. The red portion of the emission is a result of engineering a BsubPc molecular aggregate.
