Entropex is a privately owned Canadian Company involved in the reprocessing of post industrial and post
consumer plastics. Since 1978, Entropex has been a Canadian based leader in the development of market
specific recycled polyethylene and polypropylene for a variety of consumer and industrial applications. With
180,000 sq. foot plastic recovery facility (PRF) located in Sarnia, Entropex is currently ranked the 8th largest
post consumer recycler and the 18th largest Plastic Recycler in North America.
Polypropylene obtained from post-consumed recycled source is a mixture of various grades. post-consumed
recycled polypropylene (PCR-PP) is also contaminated with some other polymers such as High Density
PolyEthylene that are not compatible with Polypropylene. This presents a lot of challenges when working with
a post consumed propylene. In order to offer high quality resin grades to the customers, Entropex needs to
identify economical modification techniques to adjust and tailor some of the key properties of their incoming
materials for new products - particularly, a better impact strength, higher stiffness, and higher melt index
grades for injection molding application.
Entropex and Advanced Material Engineering Research (AMER) team at Lambton College are collaborating
through this project to develop compounding formulations that will modify and enhance the final physical and
mechanical properties of post-consumed materials. The outcome of this project will help Entropex to develop
new products for its clients for various applications. This will increase Entropex's competitiveness in the
market, increase its revenue and enhance company's growth. The developed process needs to be scaled up for
large-scale production. This will provide excellent opportunity to create jobs for design, construction and
operation. In addition, added value to post-consumer waste will lower the burden on our landfill site by
processing much of those plastics from the recycled pathway. The project will also provide opportunity for
training High Quality Personnel.
Entropex
