Canada has been a leader in renewable energy technologies for well over 40 years and is currently part of a world-class green energy company that includes over 850 companies in the cleantech sector with more than 40 companies involved in manufacturing battery components and battery banks slated for various industries, including transportation, mobile and electronic devices, and residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and dwellings. The rapid pace of vehicle electrification has further underlined the importance of affordable, high-performance, and reliable energy storage systems.In addition, there are as many as 50 early-stage energy storage developers working towards the commercialization of a wide array of green energy storage technologies, including different battery platforms and chemistries, supercapacitors, and compressed air to name a few. A number of these companies are at the forefront of their respective fields and require technical and professional support to continue developing new green storage technologies and improving the old ones.Lambton College has collaborated with more than 70 Canadian energy companies in the area of energy storage and renewable energy, over the past ten years and have assisted them in materials development, selection and characterization, component and subsystem fabrication and testing, and system integration and optimization. Lambton's research team consists of expertise in the various areas related to battery development such as design, manufacturing, testing, prototyping, and integration offer industrial partners valuable and comprehensive innovation support.To utilize existing infrastructure and expertise and build on past success and accomplishments and to continue supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) while providing significant economic, social, and environmental benefits to Canadian economies, Lambton College is proposing to establish an "Electrical Energy Storage Research Platform (EESRP)". The proposed platform will develop new and enhance existing energy storage technologies in close collaboration with seven confirmed industry partners as well as establishing new relationships with other SMEs and larger energy companies requiring assistance in this ever-evolving field. EESRP will also create a conducive teaching environment to train highly qualified personnel, at least 12 students and 12 recent graduates in the next two years.
