The Wave Energy Research Centre, operated in southern Newfoundland by College of the North Atlantic, will collaborate with Akamina Technologies Inc. to develop a new ocean wave measurement instrument capable of operating in the energetic environment of the North Atlantic surf zone. This instrument will allow inexpensive and accurate measurements of water depths and wave heights in real time in shallow water near shore. This will enable widespread monitoring of wave energy levels impacting the shoreline and coastal infrastructure, improving capability in coastal civil engineering storm risk mitigation systems and wave energy capture device design.
