In response to the applied Research and Development (R&D), and workforce development needs of companies in the mining sector province-wide, the college is proposing an expansion of its current facilities to include hyperspectral analysis. A shortwave infrared (SWIR, 1000-2500 nm) imaging spectrometer will enable future research aimed at understanding ore processing and extend the growing applied R&D capacity of CNA to support the mining sector. This facility will allow faculty, supported by students, to engage in research related to the extractive sector from exploration through to processing operations. In addition, hyperspectral imaging has applications in other industries, including in oil and gas, environmental monitoring, agriculture, aquaculture and forestry.
