College of the North Atlantic and Rutter Inc. will collaborate on a research project to determine the effects of environmental conditions, varying pulse lengths, radar power, radar antenna lengths, and antenna polarization on the performance of Rutter's sigma S6 X-Band radar system. Comparative analysis of wind and swell wave systems and surface current measurements will be conducted against the other in-situ wave and current measurement devices (e.g.Acoustic Wave / Acoustic Current - AWAC-- sensor), and in relation to the varying environmental conditions and radar/antenna parameters that influence sea clutter return. This project will not only result in Rutter being better able to serve their current clients but also opening new markets for their technology where smaller and less powerful radar devices are common.
