英文摘要
Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA) is an organization delivering innovative products, technically advanced
services, and integrated systems, primarily to the marine and offshore industry. AKA's products and services
are wide ranging, including: advanced generator protection systems; system automation; alternative energies,
including wind and solar power solutions; hybrid technologies, including the delivery of the world's first hybrid
tugboat power system; increased energy efficiency for manufacturing systems and a host of other services. The
company is keen on working with Dr. Dubay on this Engage project that involves conducting research on
developing a Power-Box (PB) device that can supply electrical energy to remote places by harnessing
renewable energy sources. Currently, electrical every is provide to these remote communities using diesel
generators. The company specifies that the PB device should be designed to accept electricity generated by
various sources (e.g. wind, diesel, solar), where the renewable sources can have time-varying behavior. This
behavior is based on the dynamic variability of the wind and solar energy components. A major challenge
would be the delivering of the stored energy from these sources to maintain a steady and reliable supply to
end-users. The monitoring and control of these combined energy sources in order to provide reliable and safe
energy is key to commercialization of the PB system. There is no PB device of various sizes and energy output
that are currently available. AKA has identified Dr. Dubay and his research team as having high expertise in
advanced automation and controls with a first class research lab to conduct the research and development work
on the PB. The device has high potential to solve the energy generation and supply problem to remote
Canadian communities and research locations. The solution can also be applied to other locations worldwide.
The PB can improve the quality of life to these remote communities as well as stimulating business initiatives.
AKA is very keen to work with Dr. Dubay as they both recognize the proposed PB has high commercialization
potential, as well as providing a mechanism on reducing greenhouse pollutants when using fossil fuels.
