Blue-O Medicals Incorporation (BOMED) is a Burnaby, BC-based company focused on research and
development of novel anti-microbial medical devices and anti-cancer drugs. BOMED has discovered that a
number of compounds from natural herbal extracts display a range of promising anti-microbial, anti-HIV and
anti-cancer efficacy, with minimal toxicity to healthy cells. The structures of these compounds is unknown. In
order to develop these drug candidates further, BOMED needs to know the structure of the compounds.
BOMED does not have the expertise or equipment to do so, and wants to partner with Prof. Jennifer Love in
the Department of Chemistry at UBC for this purpose. Both structural determination of unknown compounds
and organic synthesis are key aspects of Prof. Love's research program.
