项目摘要

Light-weight wood framed construction has gained significant popularity over the past decade as a sustainable, cost-effective solution for low-rise multi-residential buildings. More recently, the push has been to extend the use of light wood framing to mid-rise construction for increased density on urban infill projects. In 2009, British Columbia amended their building code to allow five and six storey residential wood-framed buildings, and in early 2014 the Province of Ontario passed legislation to permit wood-framed buildings up to six storeys in the next Ontario Building Code amendment (effective January 1, 2015). In conducting a detailed literature review, very little research has been focused on the three-dimensional behaviour of these structures under lateral loads. In addition, the current structural analysis and design (worldwide) of these light-frame wood structures (LFWS) is performed on an element by element basis, neglecting the overall behaviour of the building's structural system. The research proposed in this study will build on the findings, development, and experience gained during the past years of developing the simplified tool and experience in designing LFWS.
