项目摘要
Confidentiality is a fundamental building block of modern digital network systems. Confidentiality focuses on
the ability of digital systems to prevent unintended recipients from understanding exchanged messages.
Traditional short-term encryption keys rely on expensive key generators and while traditional short-term
encryption has shown resilience to wiretapping and passive listening, it has been shown that there are risks with
poor key management. This has led the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to renew its
recommendations to fix key management vulnerabilities. An alternative approach to reinventing encryption is
to add additional layers to traditional security systems leading to multi-layer-encryption or multi-fencing. The
introduction of Network Coding has led the research community to develop novel approaches to tackle
persistent security challenges. Different from routing, network coding applies a strategy of coding and
forwarding. As a result, the content encapsulated in a packet is not the raw message but an alteration or
transformation. An intruder cannot resolve the raw message from the intercepted packets given that he doesn't
possess a prior-knowledge of the coding scheme and/or sufficient packets. In the quest to remain ahead of the
ever growing security attack mechanisms, Juniper is interested in utilizing subspace network coding to remain
ahead of ever growing security threats. Juniper Networks is a world leader in network equipment and software
that is extending its interest into security and confidentiality of information.
