英文摘要
Ultrasound-microbubble therapy is an emerging medical technology, useful for many diagnostic and therapeutic applications including the treatment of cancer and heart disease. Ultrasound-based therapies have many important advantages, including the portability and relatively low cost of typical ultrasound transducers, which will allow this technology to gain further widespread use. However, more information must be obtained by scientists about the effects of ultrasound-microbubble therapy on cells and tissues to allow the widespread commercialization of this therapy to new applications. Hence, there is a large demand and market from scientists as well as clinical diagnostics labs for instruments that allow examination of the biological effects of ultrasound microbubble on cells and tissues in real time. We seek support in the form of an NSERC Engage grant to collaborate with MD Precision Inc., an emerging leader in advanced ultrasound technologies to develop and test a prototype for a commercial instrument that couples ultrasound microbubble therapy and advanced microscopy. Successful completion of this project is a key step in the commercialization of this type of instrument, and will allow MD Precision Inc. to become a leader in this emerging technology market, resulting in the success for this Canadian company as well as the creation of high level research and manufacturing positions.
