Real world testing of a mobile application software tool for tracking moose population

This is a continuation of an Engage Grant Project that involved developing a moose tracking and inventory management system. During the initial stage of that project we tested several assumptions and discovered some surprising results. For example, game models, such as leader-boards and badges do not motivate the user group. In fact some participants found it intrusive and offensive. As a result we have scaled back the game models in the app. Also, 100% of the hunters we interviewed were motivated to use the app for the sole reason it could help biologists get better data on moose populations. Throughout this project, we will focus on customer engagement and data validation processes. Some of the research challenges to be addressed will be: (1) How do we connect with people who are using the app and develop systems for customer discovery after the app is in a real world setting? (2) How do we maintain relationships with the customer? (3) How do we effectively extract valuable data from incorrect data? (4) How do we develop cross validation tools to gauge the quality of data?
