It has been demonstrated that granzyme B (GzmB), a cytotoxic serine protease, accumulates in tissues affected by aging and chronic inflammation and contributes to reduced integrity and impaired wound healing. GzmB is one of a family of five serine proteases that are now emerging as key targets for drug development. Based on these findings, the research based biotechnology company, viDA Therapeutics is developing a suite of 'first-in-class drugs' (small molecule and biological) that inhibit the action of GzmB designed for multiple routes of administration to treat the various inflammatory and age related conditions. To pursue the effects of biological inhibition of GzmB, viDA has acquired the anti-human GzmB monoclonal antibody 10C11 (raised in rabbits against purified human GzmB) and would like to first completely characterize the antibody before conducting animal trials. At present viDA does not have the resources or expertise to fully characterize the antibody and would like to enlist the help of Dr. Jamie Piret at the University of British Columbia using a NSERC-Engage grant to carry out the required characterization.
