This proposal describes a new collaboration between Armstrong Monitoring Corporation and Professor Sean Barry of Carleton University. Armstrong Monitoring is a leading manufacturer of gas detection and hazardous gas monitoring equipment, and Professor Barry is an expert in the field of surface chemistry. The goal of this project is to help Armstrong develop a novel sensor product for the detection of the harmful gas HCFC123 that can be found in refrigeration and air conditioning sensors. Current sensors on the market do not efficiently detect this gas at levels that are of potential concern. To this end, Professor Barry and his research team will help Armstrong design, develop, and test new sensors that are coated in metal nanoparticles that will allow for better detection of HCFC123.
