The term 'walkability' has recently been used to define the level of performance of sidewalks on urban streets. However, the challenge is the measurement of 'walkability'. Since, this measurement in subjective and qualitative in nature, it is necessary to develop a systematic procedure that can generate valid and acceptable measures. Stantec's Asset Management Group's work across Canada involved the assessment of sidewalk distresses (e.g. cracks, tripping hazards, poor repair) for municipalities and intend to develop a refined sidewalk assessment tool based on appropriate measurement of walkability. Walkability measurement is not easy as it involves groups of qualitative measures e.g. Accessibility, Connectivity, Comfort, Convivial, Climate, Context, and Crossings. Each of these qualitative measures is further reflected through a number of alternative indicators. However, defining a unified measurement that considers all of these qualitative measures through
