项目摘要

In this research project, we'll examine the relationship between demand for transportation network companies (TNC) and public transit along with other existing urban modes in the Greater Vancouver Region (GVR). Questions of substitution and complementarity are considered between public transits and the TNC. We hypothesize that both effects are present and that the relationship depends on public transit technology (bus and train) and exhibits spatial variation based on patterns of land use and transit services. As a secondary objective, we seek to examine the relationship between TNC and existing forms of shared mobility (i.e., taxis and carsharing services). The project is composed of a market research survey administered to the residents of the GVR in Phase-1 and the use of such data to develop econometric models of predicting TNC demands in the GVR in Phase-2.
