In order to produce leading systems in aerospace, it is important to actively engage in research and development initiatives on a variety of technologies. Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D PRINTING, is an exciting new technology offering new possibilities in fabrication and rapid prototyping not previously possible. While AM components currently do not offer properties appropriate for landing gear structural components, there is a possibility to extend the use of AM beyond prototyping in terms of fit and physical shape alone. In particular, an opportunity exists to use prototypes fabricated using AM to test the physical functionality of certain landing gear components, a very costly real prototype is made. This may
