Solar Ship Inc. builds solar-powered, buoyantly-assisted aircrafts to service remote areas, most of which have no roads or runways. The aircraft is designed for extreme short takeoff and landing relying on lift from buoyant gas. This design results in large surface areas, which make the aircraft susceptible to gusts and crosswinds, especially when operating at low speeds during taxiing on the ground, take-off, and landing. The resulting roll motion of the aircraft prohibits safe taxiing, take-off, and landing under gusts and crosswinds, which is a major limitation of the aircraft.
