For pigs, like many other farm animals, stress is part of life which includes social stress (e.g., feeding competition and weaning) and environmental stress (e.g., extreme temperatures, tight space and novelenvironment during transportation and at abattoir). In addition to stress impact on swine health and production, increased consumer awareness on animal welfare is bringing new challenges to farm management, e.g. group housing and product marketing.
