英文摘要
Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs) are alternative transportation solutions that provide cost effective, noiseless andpollution free, eco-friendly solution for urban transportations. In the global market, 200 million electricbicycles are used today and forecasted to grow to 2 billion by 2050. The technology development also has toaccelerate to scale up this expanding market requirements. Therefore, this research focuses on to develop anadvancement in the Powertrain technology using the holistic approach for designing a novel Powertrain systemfor future light electric vehicles, mainly e-bike's (extended to wheelchairs, cargo bikes, mountain bikes andmicro mobility scooters configurations). The proposed research will train one Ph.D., one M.A.Sc., one undergraduate students and a research assistant. The project consists of developing key components of propulsion systems based on research and developmentof new technologies. Components of the power train will include novel drive unit based on the slot-lessHalbach permanent magnet array which will provide high torque output ability at relatively low operationalvelocity, inverter, rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS) with new resonant inductive power transfersystem for wireless charging, battery management systems, consoles, frame and articulating mechanisms, anddisplays. Industry standards and regulatory requirements shall be considered in the development of these lightvehicle powertrains. The designs will also be inclusive of international standards. This project will help Bionx International Inc. to design and develop next generation E-bikes., which will belighter, reliable, and more efficient than those on the market today. BionX can benefit greatly from thisresearch project and expand its business to extend it to wheelchairs, cargo bikes, mountain bikes and micromobility scooters configurations to expand its business and product lines.
