UBC has developed a robust electrochemical device to measure the oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) of the extreme environments encountered in hydrometallurgical oxidation processes. The ORP is a critical process control parameter in any oxidation process but it is not currently monitored in-situ because existing technology is unreliable. While the main target for the implementation of this device is high temperature and high pressure oxidation processes, the probe can be used in virtually all hydrometallurgical operations. The probe design is simple and robust - qualities that ensure that it outperforms all currently available technologies. The probe can also measure in-situ iron concentration in parallel to ORP. This proposal sets out a plan to develop the probe for widespread use in the mining industry.
