英文摘要
The development and application of hydrogen combustion technology for the retrofit of current heavy-duty**vehicles will help to fill a gap in the transition to clean transportation not covered by electric vehicles. Hydra**Energy Corporation aims to demonstrate that any heavy-duty diesel truck could be retrofitted to operate as a**dual fuel, hydrogen/diesel vehicle without power/torque/range loss while reducing diesel consumption and**emissions by 40%. However, one primary engineering challenge in the application of hydrogen combustion**technology is the long-term ageing and reliability of the retrofitted engine due to the effects of the hydrogen**fuel. This project will evaluate the impact of the severe environments produced in hydrogen diesel combustion**engines on the corrosion susceptibility of compacted graphite iron (CGI, a primary engine block material). The**work will also assess the combined effect of hydrogen pre-charging and adsorption on the subsequent corrosion**resistance of the CGI in these environments. The primary goal of this work is to acquire a better understanding**of the corrosion risks involved in retrofitting diesel combustion engines to hydrogen internal combustion**engines, and to develop an informed maintenance and inspection program to mitigate corrosion.
