This project, conducted in partnership with FilSpec Inc., aims to characterize the optical properties and theheating power, under optical illumination, of a series of textile fabrics made from a blend of specialized yarns. These specialized yarns contain a certain proportion of carbon black and mineral nanoparticles, which areresponsible for their optical absorption in the visible and near infrared. Textiles with different combinations ofregular and near-infrared sensitive fibers will be tested to assess the impact of these mixtures on their heatingpower.Optical studies include measurements of transmittance and absorbance spectra in the 400 to 1500 nm range, under different illumination conditions. These measurements will be correlated with measurements oftemperature change under illumination. An exploratory study of the dynamics of the self-heating phenomenonwill be carried out using transient absorption measurements.
