Ring is a decentralized Voice-over-IP application developed by Savoir-Faire Linux. We propose to adapt Ringto work in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET), and to evaluate the resulting performance and scalability. Thiswill require replacing the reliance on the internet infrastructure with the use of a multi-hop MANET routingalgorithm such as OLSR. Ring relies on a Distributed Hash Table (DHT) to store credentials and messages.The messages required to maintain the overlay topology of the DHT are a performance bottleneck whendeployed in a MANET, and so we will replace the existing DHT with a cross-layer version which usestopology information from the underlying MANET.
