The goal of the Canada Research Chair in Condensed Matter Physics is a better under-standing of the fundamental physical limits to technology. This is accomplished through precision studies of nanomagnetism using ultrafast optics, scanning probe microscopy, and the revolutionary new measurement techniques of on-chip cavity opto-mechanics. My group is also a source of exceptional, highly-trained personnel to support the local nanoscale science and technology community. The first two terms of this CRC, as an important component of a broad-based effort, helped to establish the critical mass of nanotech activity now conducted in Edmonton through the UAlberta
NanoFab, within the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), and in the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science.
This proposal requests support for our continuing innovative efforts, including the development and deployment of a nanomechanical lab-on-a-chip for magnetism.
