Numerical simulation constitutes the only approach for developing rational projections of the anticipated climate changes that lie ahead for humanity. The Chair is deeply involved in the development of a comprehensive high-resolution climate model that will provide an unprecedented level of detail on several physical processes that are crucial for the climate of Canada and the Arctic regions, such as permafrost-snow linkages, impacts of glaciers and groundwater on the regional climate, and the role of land-atmosphere interactions in modulating climate extremes. This research will provide essential information for the development of adaptation strategies to minimize the negative impacts of the anticipated climate changes.
