Integrated Health Research for Sustainable Aquaculture

Over the next five years Dr. St-Hilaire will expand her research on aquatic ecosystem health and stakeholder-relevant issues affecting finfish and shellfish. The proposed research objectives include: 1) identifying strategies to reduce antibiotic and anti-parasitic use in salmonid aquaculture; 2) mitigating risk of foodborne pathogens in commercial shellfish; and 3) managing invasive species, specifically green crab. The anticipated accomplishments of this program will be reduced treatment costs for fish farmers, improved food safety, increased sustainable aquaculture and environmental stewardship.
