This project aims to develop new technology for mapping willow tree yield. This system will be designed and built in partnership with Agro Énergie, based in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Quebec. The system will gather physical characteristics of willow trees on-the-go, while the trees are being harvested. Features assessed include the number of trees harvested, their diameter, and straightness. The system will tag these data with corresponding geographical coordinates, using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver. The yield maps will help Agro Énergie enhance the processing logistics of their production system (willows with desired features will be used for green fences, while the remaining material will be recycled as biomass). To complete the task, we will apply real-time machine vision technology. It is expected that the project will last from February-August 2019.**
