英文摘要
In the initial Engage grant (web infrastructure for virtual reality), the back-end infrastructure work to support**real-time virtual reality applications was applied to a problem in a different domain. An emergency services**peer-support application was envisioned to allow people possessing naloxone kits to provide emergency**response to those experiencing an opiate overdose. From a computer science perspective, this is an interesting**problem in that the server infrastructure is an extension of our previous architectures, but requires additional**resiliency and fault-tolerance, both to network interruptions and to older devices that may not have certain**capabilities. The application is one in which absolute dependability is needed, so using multiple cloud service**providers, and falling back to peer-to-peer SMS messaging is part of the architectural design. This work will**allow container-based network services to scale to the unique requirements of mission-critical emergency**applications.
