Environmental pollutants can exert a negative impact on wildlife reproduction. Male reproductive function appears to be particularly sensitive to pollutants, and in particular those that act as endocrine disruptor. Cellular barriers of the testis and epididymis create a specific environment in the lumen of these organs to enable spermatozoa to be formed, acquire motility and the ability to fertilize. This research Chair in Male Reproductive Toxicology will examine how the epididymis can maintain its barrier following chemical insult and the process by which the epithelium of this tissue can regenerate following chemical-induced cellular damage.
