英文摘要
Elsius Biomedical Corp. is a Canadian medical device company located in Calgary that is developing a portable Cardiopulmonary Assist System (pCAS). The technology is based on Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). ECMO is a complex lifesaving technology that provides circulatory and respiratory support to very sick patients who are experiencing certain kinds of circulatory or respiratory failure. It requires a cannula to be inserted into the patient's body, which reroutes blood out of the patient into the pCAS system and then back into the body (usually via the femoral or jugular veins). It is difficult for Elsius to source small quantities of cannulas for validation testing of pCAS technology. This study will aid Elsius in developing their own in-house cannula fabrication knowledge.
