Edge computing enables data processing at the edge of the network. It encompasses 3 main concepts: cloudlets, multi-access edge computing (MEC), and fog computing. Cloudlets are resource rich-servers or clusters of servers located in single hop proximity of mobile devices. MEC provides cloud computing capabilities at the edges of networks with a focus on mobile networks. Fog computing is an extension of the cloud from the core to the edge of networks. Two key benefits are expected from edge computing: latency reduction and provisioning of new services and applications. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) consist of a collection of Web servers distributed over multiple locations to transparently and effectively deliver rcontent to end-users with the required Quality of Experience (QoE). They were traditionally provisioned with static Web technologies but are now more and more often provisioned with modern technologies such as cloud computing. However latency still remains a key roadblock and the introduction of new services and applications (especially the ones which rely on information available solely at the edge) is still an uphill task. This project aims at bringing the benefits of edge computing to the CDN world. We will propose and validate architectures and algorithms which will enable latency reduction and easy introduction of new services and applications in CDNs.****
