Life is controlled by molecules binding to each other. Their on/off states are controlled by subtle *structural changes, even the addition of only a single carbon atom ('methyl'). Dr. Hof has studied *how these mechanisms work, and has used those lessons to build an unprecedented set of *chemical tools for studying methylation pathways in life. These include the first inhibitors of a *protein that causes aggressive cancer, and a suite of tools that can sense, enrich, and disrupt the *actions of their targets. His work opens the door for the creation of new diagnostics, therapeutics, *and research reagents.
