The Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Design & Innovation Center (DIC) at Ivany campus, in**Dartmouth NS, is a regionally recognized facility committed to excellence in advanced manufacturing. The**center has the following objectives: (i) manufacturing and rapid prototyping applications, and**commercialization through knowledge and technology transfer; (ii) applied learning and training through**student involvement and technical training; and (iii) collaboration through private and public sector**partnerships resulting in community and economic development.**In this context, NSCC has committed to act as a capacity development catalyst and provide the setting that**contributes solutions to real world challenges; this applied research activity is driven by faculty, and focused on**students. The funding requested from the NSERC ARTI grant will be used to buy an automatically controlled,**reprogrammable, mobile and multipurpose manipulator programmable in six axes, along with an equipment for**underwater ultrasonic peening to support underwater treatment of welds and welded structures. This will allow**the college to expand education programing opportunities in Mechanical Engineering Technologies, Welding**and Welding Inspection & Quality Control, and build capacity in the NSCC Design & Innovation Center. This**will also lead to NSCC generating customized industry-related solutions that will support technology**development to address local industry challenges in manufacturing-related services.
