Nova Scotia has been a centre for ocean services for 300 years, and continues extensive ship-building, ocean science, and applied research activities. Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) delivers education to more than 20,000 students across 13 locations, for a range of economic sectors, and hosts applied research, customized training and technology services aimed at improving the economy and quality of life in the region. NSCC seeks to establish the Sensing, Engineering, and Analytics - Technology Access Centre (SEA-TAC) to expand the regions capacity to meet industry innovation needs in the ocean sector. SEA-TAC will offer industry access to the array of technical capabilities that exist within NSCCs applied research and academic programs. The TAC will build on existing expertise and unique resources such as NSCCs Design and Innovation Centre, Topobathymetric Lidar technology, the Applied Oceans Research Lab, the Applied Energy Research Lab, the Nautical Institutes wave tank and simulators, and NSCC Data Analytics infrastructure. SEA-TAC enables partners to undertake innovative projects at lower risk, while maximizing opportunities to apply NSCCs infrastructure and talent to benefit the Atlantic Canada ocean-innovation ecosystem. SEA-TAC will also support supply-chain development, workforce training/productivity, and marine in-service support capabilities to complement the regions naval fleet and billion dollar shipbuilding sector. Through SEA-TAC, NSCC will enable innovators in the ocean-technology industry to sense, engineer, and analyze new opportunities in the rapidly growing global ocean economy.
