英文摘要
Optometrists work to improve our vision but they face a crucial problem - while it is easy to assess the impact of their interventions behaviourally through simple examination it is considerably harder to gauge how the brain is responding to these changes. The proposed project seeks to address this issue - here we will utilize leading edge neuroscience knowledge and technology to develop a neural brain assessment tool that will allow optometrists and other users to quantitatively measure changes in brain function brought about by medical interventions. Specifically, the proposed prototype tool developed here will use mobile electroencephalography (EEG, or brain waves) in conjunction with specifically designed software to evoke and measure event-related brain potentials (ERPs) - the brains response to specific events. People who use the developed tool will play a series of games on an Apple computer while their EEG is measured via a MUSE headband - a commercially available product made by InterAxon Inc. in Toronto. The software will analyze the neural response to events in the games and these data will be turned into a series of brain scores that can be measured repeatedly to track changes in brain performance. ** DBA Opto-mization Neurovisual Performance's partnership with Dr. Krigolson's laboratory will result in a new software product that will allow optometrists, scientists, and researchers to easily quantify a person brain scores to assess changes in brain performance. Given a recent increase in interest in examining changes in brain function related to medical interventions, the proposed project will provide a way for this to be accomplished in an easy manner. The project will also establish pathways toward intensified consumer and research projects afforded by the developed software that will carry DBA Opto-mization Neurovisual Performance into new industry verticals in medical and healthcare-related fields.
