Earthquake Geology

Earthquakes are among the most significant natural hazards facing society, globally *and within Canada. My research aims to determine the controls on tectonic faults that *cause earthquakes. I use ancient, fossilized faults as representatives of modern *systems to identify the mechanisms governing fault rupture, creep and healing over *centuries to millennia of the seismic cycle. My use of cutting edge field and *analytical techniques, my skill in understanding the rock record of earthquakes, and *my accomplishments in teaching and advising young scientists have established me *as an international leader in the field of earthquake geology.
